Parco del Serio
Serio Park is a protected natural area in Lombardy that runs along the Serio River to its mouth in the Adda River for about 45 km. The landscape we admire today is the result of the millennial relationship between people and the environment. In particular, the river is bordered by agricultural areas alternating with natural areas of meadows and forests.
The Serio Park is a protected natural area in Lombardy that runs along the Serio River to its mouth in the Adda River for about 45 km. The territory of the park runs through as many as 26 municipalities between the provinces of Bergamo and Cremona. The landscape we admire today is the result of the millennial relationship between people and the environment. In particular, the river is bordered by agricultural areas alternating with natural areas of meadows and forests.
Within the park we find several historic farmsteads built with river pebbles and places of architectural interest, such as the Colleoneschi castles many medieval towns. The presence of a rich and varied landscape is the basis for the presence of multiple ecosystems within which flora and fauna adapted to specific environmental conditions develop. Maintaining this landscape is the basis for conserving biodiversity, that is, the variety of species and genetic heritages present within the Park. For this reason, our project includes the creation of new wooded areas on the banks of the river, interspersed with meadows and shrubs.
This project is co-funded by the Lombardy Region’s Biodiversity and Climate Call (BioClima) and supported by Fondazione Cariplo. Bioclima is an initiative created within the framework of the Lombardy Plan and the LIFE GESTIRE 2020 project that aims to create public-private financing models to catalyze investment in biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation projects in Lombardy’s forests and protected areas.
