San Vigilio di Marebbe: adopt new trees here

WOWnature's project in San Vigilio di Marebbe aims to restore forests in the Dolomites affected by storm Vaia and the bark beetle epidemic. Through reforestation with more resistant trees, we promote ecosystem regeneration and protection of local biodiversity. All individuals and businesses can adopt a tree and come plant it in person in the spring of 2025, directly contributing to the preservation of this extraordinary landscape.

Adopt a tree in San Vigilio

WOWnature’s goal is to grow new forests where they are needed most. We do this by partnering with citizens, agencies and businesses who want to adopt new trees and improve the ecosystems they love. To touch on each other’s commitment, we organize events in nature where we plant adopted trees. By adopting new trees in San Vigilio, you will have a direct impact on the conservation and beauty of this corner of Dolomite paradise. You will be actively involved in planting trees in compromised areas, helping to restore forest health and prevent landslide hazards and habitat loss for local wildlife. The next event will be held in early 2025, in spring.

Why adopt a tree here

San Vigilio di Marebbe, nestled between the imposing Dolomites and surrounded by two nature parks, is a place of outstanding natural beauty and rich Ladin culture. This picturesque village offers a unique combination of breathtaking scenery and outdoor activities, from hiking trails to ski slopes. However, the forests in this region are facing a serious threat from the bark beetle, an insect that has caused the death of large areas of forest, endangering not only the landscape but also soil stability and the habitat of local wildlife. Rising temperatures and increasing frequency of extreme weather events have weakened trees, creating favorable conditions for the proliferation of the bark beetle, which feeds on the bark of the most vulnerable fir trees, often leading to their death. This decline alters the landscape and also increases the risk of landslides and mudslides, endangering soil stability and local biodiversity, and compromising the habitat of many animal species. In collaboration with the San Vigilio Dolomites tourism destination, we have initiated a reforestation project to give the region’s forests a future.
