Updates from Le Basse del Brenta | October 2024
Three years ago, in 2021, we started an ecological restoration project in Le Basse del Brenta, planting trees of local species, specifically adapted to the environmental and hydrogeological conditions of the river area. The objective is to reconstitute the typical lowland forest, a natural ecosystem composed of various tree and shrub species that once populated the floodplains of the Brenta. In the initial phase, the area was prepared and cleared to accommodate plants such as hazelnuts, willows, ash trees, field maples and dogwoods, among others.
Today, the young plants planted in 2022 already have deep roots in the soil and are growing luxuriantly, reaching 2 metres in height in some cases, a sign that the techniques adopted were successful. ‘The success of the planting is very good,’ Chiara explains while monitoring the area. The plants, thanks to careful maintenance work and the control of herbaceous competition, have become well anchored in the ground and have begun to form a dense mixed forest.
