Did you know that plants have the unique ability to clean the air of suspended pollutant particles? That’s right, trees do us good! As a matter of fact, tree leaves act as a natural filter: particulate matter (the infamous PM10 and PM2.5 so often mentioned) carried by the wind bumps into leaves, which trap the microscopic particles on their surface. Some trees are better than others at this important task: air purification capacity depends on many variables, but one of them is the roughness of leaves.
Next time you pass by Bosco Rossi in Limena, try rubbing the leaves of the different species to see which ones are the best. But we’ll let you in on a secret: in this forest they are all very good, as we have selected them specifically for this purpose!
