Forests created or improved Smart-tech Forest
Why did we support this forest?
In the lowland area around the city of Brasov, in the heart of Romania, a new urban forest is growing. To measure the benefits of the trees on the area, state-of-the-art sensors will be installed to monitor numerous variables.
History of the forest
On the outskirts of Brașov, Romania, a new urban forest has been developed thanks to the European Uforest project. Situated in a flat area near the city, the forest represents a significant step towards environmental regeneration and climate adaptation in peri-urban regions. The selection of oak, maple, ash, and wild cherry trees aims to boost local biodiversity and offer shelter for birds, small mammals, and pollinating insects.

How we improved the forest
The distinctive aspect of this forest lies in its technological integration: meteorological, soil, and spectral sensors have been installed to monitor the environmental benefits produced by the trees. These innovative devices enable us to gather data on climate, soil, and vegetation, allowing us to evaluate in real-time the positive impact of the forest on air quality, temperature regulation, and tree health. This project merges nature with technology to create more liveable and resilient cities.

This urban forestry initiative is part of the Uforest project, funded with the support of the European Commission and promoted by Ersaf and Etifor.
The Uforest project aims to promote Europe’s capacity for innovation among universities, cities and businesses in order to develop a new approach to urban forestry.
