Fiumicino’s Tommaso Forti Park is a green area that will be enriched with 100 new trees in 2024, thanks to a collaboration between Aeroporti di Roma and Lagardère Travel Retail Italia. This urban forestation project will have many positive impacts on the area and the community. The main objective of this project was to select and plant trees of five different species, each carefully chosen for their ability to adapt to Fiumicino’s climatic and environmental conditions and for the specific benefits they provide. The intervention aims to enhance, preserve, and increase the area’s plant heritage by combining specialized expertise to select the most suitable species, improve the soil, enhance the existing greenery, and improve the usability of the park by the public. Linden captures particulates and reduces noise pollution, while maple sequesters CO2 and resists pollutants. The hackberry tree, with its broad canopy, provides shade and attracts birds, improving biodiversity. Ash is adapted to dry soils and reduces ozone formation, and hornbeam, with its ornamental versatility, creates shady and pleasant spaces for visitors.
